Tour Details

Day 01: Arrive in Lisbon International Airport. Meet by local guide/rep at after immigration and custom clearance. Transfer from Airport to your Hotel in Lisbon.

Day 02: Morning departure towards Sesimbra, old fishing village and brief visit to his castle with stunning views. Then pass AZEITÃO village, where a landscape of olive groves, vineyards and oak trees prevail. Indulge in a tasting of feta cheese accompanied by a drink in the historic cellars of José Maria da Fonseca, which produce Periquita, a Moscatel wine and more than 40 brands of wine. During the view get to know a little more of its 100 years old and its secrets. This is a region known for its sweets, the famous "Torta de Azeitão". Even if we may of interest to visit the workshop of St. Simon to understand the manufacturing process of handmade Portuguese tiles as well as ceramic and porcelain Vila Fresca. Through Arrábida with spectacular views over the Atlantic and the peninsula of Troia follow towards Évora where we end our tour.

Day 03: The tour starts in the morning with the beautiful medieval city of Évora, the historical center, in Alentejo, an area that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, and where you can visit monuments like: the Cathedral, Roman Temple, the Church of St. Francis and its Chapel of Bones. After lunch we continue towards Reguengos de Monsaraz to visit one of the largest estates in the country in wine production. After lunch, we went towards the typical walled town of Monsaraz with a stunning view on the dam alqueva. Our journey continues to Vila Viçosa.

Day 04: Make a visit to this beautiful village and the Ducal Palace, once occupied by Romans and Muslims, this village has acquired a lot of importance to the early 4th Dynasty "Bragança" when the recent King D. João IV made the donation of his Crown of Our Lady da Conceição, which can still be seen today in the Church. Our route continues to the town of Marble, Estremoz. Here you will experience the local cuisine at the Pousada Rainha Santa Isabel or any other local restaurant. After lunch we went to Alter do Chão, land of strong equestrian traditions. Visit the stud farm (optional), and continued to Marvão.

Day 05: After breakfast, our day will be dedicated to places with strong connections to Judaism. We begin with a walking tour inside this village within the ancient walls of the Castle. Continue to Castelo de Vide village during the Inquisition in Spain, grew with the coming of the Jewish people who were keeping their customs and traditions to the present day. Here we visit the synagogue and the castle which still retains its well-preserved town. Then continue to take where we can visit the Templar Castle and the Convent of Christ, Sec. XII, as well as the oldest synagogue in Portugal, Sec. XV. Return to Lisbon.

Day 06: After breakfast, visit the most exciting city in the moment, Lisbon. Here we discover destroyed by the earthquake (Lower) of the older neighborhoods like Alfama, Castelo and Bairro Alto, a town linked to the Portuguese Discoveries (Bethlehem) and the chic Chiado and Liberty Avenue. While in Lisbon, dining in a good home Fado is a must. So tonight we will take to enjoy the traditional Portuguese music, considered a world heritage site.

Day 07: This day, not to escape the rule, will be full of culture and visit some of the most beautiful palaces in the country, in the famous village of Sintra considered by UNESCO as World Heritage. Here we will have time to visit landmarks such as the Palace of Queluz, built by D. Maria I, the Palace of Sintra, the Century. XIV century Pena Palace. XIX which looks like a fairytale palace and the lush Regaleira Estate with its lush gardens and tunnels. After the fantastic Sintra, we went to the most western point of continental Europe, Cabo da Roca. We continue our tour towards Cascais, Estoril and former fishing village, village well known for the largest casino in Europe, and during the 2nd World War as a place of spies, face neutral position it held during this period.

Day 08: Transfer from your Hotel to the Lisbon International Airport.

 

Braga, Guimarães and Ponte de Lima Private Tour

Our day will start in the morning to Braga formerly town of Romans and later "town of the archbishops," Braga is one of the main religious centers of Portugal, which strongly dominates the Baroque. Discover its main monuments such as the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Braga, the tiles of the Palacio do Raio, its imposing cathedral and via sacra and its historic  center.

The north of the country and famous for its food so indulge yourself with the typical flavors of the region.

After lunch continue our trip to Guimarães considered the birthplace of Portugal. Here was born the first king of Portugal Afonso D. Henriques.

Guimarães offers its visitors a magnificent historic center classified World Heritage by UNESCO (2001). Meet the corners of the city as European Capital of Culture for 2012, where you can appreciate the evolution of a city of medieval origin, which retains its authenticity today.

 On return to port, still visit the oldest town in Portugal.

Even before the foundation of Portugal, was Queen D. Teresa in 1125, recognized this village, referring to it as Town of the  Bridge. Years later, in the fourteenth century, King Pedro I, due to the geo-strategic position of Ponte de Lima, sent her wall, so that the final result was a medieval town surrounded by walls-nine towers, of which remaining two.

Here we find a fine specimen of a Roman bridge still well preserved.

Our tour starts in the morning towards Tomar, town well known for its strong connection to the Knights Templar since the beginning of XII century. As it must to build your castle and convent that grew into the headquarters of this religious order, later transformed into the Order of Christ that drove the Portuguese discoveries. With the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, the city had a good synagogue welcomed much of artisans, professionals and merchants refugees. The Jewish settlement gave new meaning to Tomar and was vital to the success of Discovery`s.Getting there we will visit the original synagogue, built by Prince Henry, and Convent of Christ.After our visit, we will continue our tour to Belmonte, earth deeply connected to the Jewish people and the Sephardic Jewish history, associated with the resistance of the Jews to religious intolerance in the Iberian Peninsula. In the sixteenth century, during the period of inquisition Jewish people were forced to convert or leave the country. Many abandoned, and others converted to Christianity in official terms, keeping their worship and cultural traditions within the family. But a third group of Jews, took a more extreme measure. Several decided to isolate themselves from the outside world, cutting off contact with the rest of the country and follow their traditions strictly. This group of Jews who took their religion until the end were called “Marranos“, alluding to ritual prohibition against eating pork. For centuries the Marranos of Belmonte maintained their Jewish traditions almost intact, making it an exceptional case criptojudaica community. Only in the 70s the community established contact with the Jews of Israel and officiated Judaism as their religion. In 2005 the city opened the Jewish Museum of Belmonte, the first of its kind in Portugal, showing the traditions and the day-to-day of this community, who gladly will visit to find out more about this community full of customs and Jewish traditions. But Belmonte has strong roots with an important character of discovery. We can still see the house where Pedro Alvares Cabral, the explorer who discovered Brazil was borned, the castle ruins and the olive oil museum.Leaving Belmonte we head to Castelo de Vide,a very important city during the period of the Inquisition in Spain. This city as Belmonte  the  grew with the coming of the Jewish people who were keeping their customs and traditions up to the present day. In Castelo de Vide we visit the synagogue, the jewish quarter  and the Castle, which still has its Burgh well preserved . Then Return to Lisbon.
